Um dos momentos mais extraordinários da televisão mundial e da música pop aconteceu em 11 de junho de 1988. No estádio de Wembley, em Londres, dezenas dos artistas e bandas mais famosos da atualidade se reuniram para homenagear o aniversário de 70 anos e pedir a libertação de Nelson Mandela, preso há mais de 20 anos. Contando com a presença de nomes como Dire Straits, Sting, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Eurythmics, Tears for Fears e Simple Minds, o concerto foi transmitido ao vivo para mais de 70 países, na mais longa transmissão mundial já feita pela televisão. O show durou mais de 11 horas ininterruptas, sendo assistido ao vivo por milhões de pessoas espalhadas pelos mais variados continentes do planeta. Como eram muitos músicos num evento totalmente voluntário e ativista, a produção teve que lidar com uma jornada inacreditável para conciliar agendas e os inúmeros problemas técnicos que surgiam. Quando ia entrar no palco para sua apresentação, o cantor Stevie Wonder descobriu que havia sumido o disco rígido de seu teclado sintetizador, criando um vazio na programação. Foi então que o inesperado aconteceu. Para substituí-lo enquanto resolviam o problema com a banda de Mr. Wonder, foi convocada às pressas uma tímida e ainda desconhecida e até então cantora de barzinho chamada Tracy Chapman, que atravessou correndo o longo corredor de camarins, subiu ao palco sozinha e plugou seu violão... WXNZ Radio shared Somerset Woods Trustees's event.

SWT, Brian Alexander, and many volunteers have worked over this summer to create over three miles of new trails in SWT's Coburn Woods. Come enjoy the ribbon cutting at 1 PM to dedicate the new trails, named for SWT's 1927 founders. Let's thank the volunteers who have made this trail possible! The trails are perfect for hiking, skiing or mountain biking. Bring your bikes! Coburn Woods trails are open every day until dusk and SWT encourages you to enjoy as much and as often as you wish. Parking lot on Russell Road in Skowhegan.

WXNZ Radio shared Wesserunsett Arts Council's event.

This is the second, of three, Somerset Cultural Plan (SCP) public forums hosted by the Somerset Cultural Planning Committee. It will be held in the conference room at the Fairfield Community Center on Oct. 11 at 9 a.m..

The goal of this meeting will be to improve strategies for the SCP recommended by Reinholt Consulting. The SCP will be a guiding document for Somersets future economic development, this means we need community support and feedback!

We encourage all residents of Somerset County to participate in these meetings to help identify cultural assets and build upon them.
